A crane without a rigger is idle and a rigger without a crane is waiting. If your scope involves lifting, say whether you need both, and whether the crane is yours or hired separately. A rigger is only as safe as the gear on the hook. Slings, shackles, hooks and spreader beams are inspected before each lift, and many sites use a colour code or tag to show that gear has passed its periodic inspection. Damaged or unmarked gear is quarantined, not used. Agree who supplies the rigging gear and who keeps its inspection records, so the rigger is checking known, certified equipment rather than whatever is in the container.
A lift is a team effort: the crane operator, one or more Level III riggers slinging and signalling, and a lift supervisor who owns the lift plan. Larger or blind lifts often need a second rigger to keep sight of the load. On steel and equipment erection, riggers work with erectors who land and bolt what is lifted.
