Operators and riggers are requested together

A lift needs both. If the requirement covers crane operation, say whether you also need riggers, and whether a banksman is provided by your side. Requesting one without the other is the most common reason a lifting requirement arrives incomplete.

A tower crane that runs a long day or a double shift needs a relief operator, or the crane stops when the operator does. Say whether the crane works one shift or two, and whether you need a relief operator, so the crew is sized to the hours the crane actually runs.

Plan for the lifting window you really have

Wind stops more tower-crane hours than most programmes allow for. Seasonal shamal winds and afternoon gusts can push wind speed past the crane's limit, and summer heat often moves heavy lifts to the early morning. If your programme depends on the crane, say whether lifts may run at night or on a split shift, so operator hours and relief cover are planned around the lifting window you actually have, not a standard day.

What to check before they start

Match the operator's TUV card to the copy sent with the CV, and confirm the card covers tower cranes. A mobile crane card is not the same thing.
Arrange the familiarisation on your crane, with the crane supplier where your site requires it, before the operator's first production lift.
Agree the signalling method with the operator and the riggers, including the radio channel and the hand signals, and test the radio from the cab before the first lift.
Check the operator knows your site's wind-speed limit and who decides when lifting stops.
Confirm your arrangements for cab access and rescue, because the climb to the cab is itself work at height.
