TUV Card Requirements by Trade on Saudi Sites

Which supplied trades usually need a TUV card on Saudi industrial and construction sites, which don't, and how to check a card before a worker is mobilized.

Many Saudi industrial and construction sites will not let a scaffolder, rigger or equipment operator through the gate without a valid third-party (TUV) card for the work they will do. Asking for the right card in the RFQ, and checking copies before mobilization, avoids workers being turned away on day one.

Card requirements by trade

Each site sets its own rules, so treat this as the usual pattern and confirm the exact card and level with your site HSE team.

Welder	No TUV card: welder qualification (WPQ)	WPQ records for the process and position the job needs, such as 6G.

How to check a card before mobilization

☐ Ask for card copies with the CVs, before you approve any worker.
☐ Check that the name and Iqama number on the card match the worker's Iqama.
☐ Check the expiry date against your full work window, not just the start date.
☐ Check that the card category and level, or the crane type and capacity, cover the actual job.
☐ Ask your site HSE team whether they verify cards with the issuing body, and allow time for it.

A worker's card is not a company approval

TUV cards and Aramco certification belong to individual workers. They do not mean the supplier itself is approved by Aramco, SABIC or any other owner. Ask for vendor approvals separately if your contract requires them.

Aramco-certified or not

Some sites, including Aramco facilities, require workers to hold Aramco certification for their trade in addition to, or instead of, a TUV card. Others accept non-Aramco workers with a valid TUV card. State which one your site requires in the RFQ, so the right workers are shortlisted from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do welders need a TUV card on Saudi sites?▼

No. Welders are qualified by welder performance qualification (WPQ) tests for a specific process and position, such as 6G. Ask for WPQ records, and expect the site to run its own weld test before work starts.

Is a TUV card the same as Aramco certification?▼

No. They are separate requirements, and some sites ask for one, the other or both. Gulf Orbit supplies both Aramco-certified and non-Aramco workers, so state what your site requires in the RFQ.

Can I see the cards before workers are mobilized?▼

Yes. Gulf Orbit sends card copies with the CVs for your approval before mobilization.

What rigger level does Gulf Orbit supply?▼

Rigger Level III, with a TUV card where the site requires one. State the lift type and crane capacity in the RFQ so the rigger and operator are matched to the same lift plan.
