Shop and field steel fabrication

Our structural steel fabricators handle both off-site yard fabrication and on-site assembly. Working directly from structural engineering shop drawings, they mark cutting lines, operate oxy-fuel/plasma cutting torches, saw cut heavy sections, punch and drill bolt hole patterns, and bevel plate edges so the joint matches the weld procedure specifications (WPS).

Fit-up and tack-weld checks

Fabrication quality hinges on fit-up accuracy. Fabricators clamp, align, and tack-weld columns, beams, base plates, stiffeners, gusset plates, and trusses to the dimensional tolerances on the drawings. They check diagonal squareness, camber, sweep, and root openings before releasing assemblies to welders, which reduces field-erection misfits.

Steelwork types and mobilization

From pre-engineered buildings (PEBs) to heavy pipe rack steel and industrial equipment skids, fabricator requirements are matched to the type of steelwork. Worker documents are reviewed per project before mobilization, and in-Kingdom personnel mobilize within 48–72 hours of the purchase order (PO), subject to those documents and site approvals.

Marks, holes and coating details

Fabrication ends before painting or galvanising, and small details at this stage save days later. Piece marks have to survive blasting and coating. Galvanised members need vent and drain holes in the right places. Weld spatter and sharp edges have to be removed before coating. Tell us whether your steel is painted or galvanised, and fabricators who prepare steel for that finish are put forward.

What to check before they start

Check the CV against your steelwork type, such as PEB, pipe racks or skids, and the shop tools you use.
Check the first assembly against the drawing, including diagonals, squareness and hole positions, before the fabricator moves to production.
Brief your piece-marking system, so every assembly leaves the shop with the mark the erection crew will look for.
Brief hot-work, fire watch and grinding rules in the shop or on site before cutting starts.
Confirm that heavy sections are moved with lifting equipment and riggers, not by hand.
