Internal plaster gives a flat, smooth base for paint. External render has to shed water, resist heat and movement, and often carries a texture or a paint system. The mixes, coat thicknesses and details at openings differ, and so does the access: internal work is done from podiums and trestles, external render from scaffolds. State which your scope includes, and the plaster type your specification names, so masons are matched on it.
A plastered wall is only as flat as the dots and screeds the mason sets before the first coat. Beads at corners and openings fix the lines, and the finished surface is checked with a straightedge against the tolerance in the specification. Walls that fail are re-skimmed, which costs more than setting them out properly. If your finish is demanding, for example where lighting grazes long corridor walls, say so in the RFQ.
Cement plaster that dries too fast cracks. In Saudi heat and wind, masons dampen the background, keep batches small, protect fresh work from direct sun and wind, and cure it as the specification requires. Mesh is fixed over junctions between block and concrete, where movement causes cracks most often. Share your curing requirements and working hours, especially through the summer, so output is planned around them.
Every conduit, box and pipe chased into a wall after plastering means cutting and patching finished work. Plastering should follow the electrical and plumbing first fix, once chases are filled and boxes are set to the finished plaster line. Agree the sequence with your MEP contractor, and release walls to the plasterers only when first fix is signed off, so the crew does not return to the same wall twice.
Plaster masons usually work with helpers who mix, carry and keep material at the wall, one helper often serving one or two masons depending on the plaster and the height. They follow block masons and MEP first fix floor by floor, under a civil foreman, and painters follow them. For external render, scaffolders build access first. Send the wall area and floor release dates, and the crew is sized for your programme.
