What drives demand here
Building in Makkah is shaped by the pilgrimage calendar. Hotels and residential towers around the central area and along the main roads are built and renewed between the peaks of Ramadan and Hajj, when the city fills with visitors and site work near the centre slows or stops. Access rules are strict: entry to Makkah is for Muslims only, and in the weeks before Hajj the authorities limit entry further. A scaffolding crew for Makkah is therefore chosen for the city before it is chosen for the job.
