What drives demand here
Ras Tanura sits on a narrow peninsula north of Qatif, home to one of the Kingdom's oldest refineries and a large crude export terminal, with the Juaymah terminal further north. Almost all scaffolding demand here comes from maintenance: planned turnarounds, unit outages and the steady work of keeping process plant, tanks and jetties accessible. Access is controlled at every gate, the air is salty and humid, and a turnaround's scaffold peak can arrive within days of the window opening.
Turnaround peaks
Scaffolders are among the first trades into a turnaround and the last out. The access list for exchangers, columns and piping has to be built before inspection, mechanical and insulation crews can start, then modified as each item opens, then struck after box-up. That makes the scaffold headcount steep at both ends of the window. Send the window dates, the access list or an estimate of it, and the shift pattern, so the crew is sized for the peaks and released between them.
Gate passes and worker documents
Every worker entering a Ras Tanura facility needs a gate pass, and passes depend on complete documents: iqama with the right profession, medical, insurance, induction records and any site-specific cards. Missing one paper can hold a whole crew at the gate on the first morning. Tell us the facility's pass process and its lead time, so CVs, card copies and documents are prepared for it before the crew travels.
Supervisors and site procedures
Facilities here run their own scaffold procedure, including who inspects and tags each scaffold, and many require a supervisor approved for that procedure. Where the procedure demands it, the crew is led by an Aramco-approved scaffolding supervisor, whose approval is personal and not Gulf Orbit's; elsewhere a non-Aramco supervisor leads. The approval card travels with the CV for your sign-off.
Salt, humidity and long shifts
On the peninsula, humidity is high for much of the year and salt settles on everything. Crews on tank shells, jetties and pipe racks lose working time to heat in summer and to wet, slippery surfaces in the early hours. During a turnaround, shifts often run 12 hours with day and night crews. Tell us whether a night crew is needed, so lead scaffolders and helpers are planned for both shifts rather than stretched across them.
Travel from Dammam and Jubail
Ras Tanura is close enough to the Dammam head office and the Jubail branch for daily transport, which is quoted on request with accommodation if the crew lives near site during the window. The same crew can move on to a Jubail or Dammam job when the turnaround ends, which helps contractors who run several windows in the Eastern Province in one season.
Trades commonly needed for this service in Ras Tanura
Do you work inside the Al Najmah community as well as the plant?
Yes. Residential and community buildings in Al Najmah need facade and maintenance access under the community's own rules; tell us the area and its access process.
Who leads the crew under the facility's scaffold procedure?
A supervisor who meets that procedure: an Aramco-approved scaffolding supervisor where it is required, approved personally rather than through Gulf Orbit, or a non-Aramco supervisor where it is not.
How early should we send a turnaround requirement?
As early as the window dates are known. Gate passes and documents take time, and scaffolders are needed from the first days of the window.
Can you supply both day and night scaffolding crews?
Yes. State the shift pattern and the crews are planned with a lead scaffolder and helpers on each shift.
Are TUV-certified scaffolders available in Ras Tanura?
Yes. Plant gates here usually check cards, so the crew list shows each scaffolder's TUV card (TUV-certified) and, where the facility asks, Aramco certification. the scaffolders TUV-certified?
Can the same crew move on to a Jubail job after the Ras Tanura window?
Often, yes. When windows follow each other in the Eastern Province, the crew can transfer with its documents and inductions planned for the next site.
